Old family lore states that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it is true! A good breakfast gets your metabolism started and can clear your mind for the rest of the day and help you wake up. And eating a substantial, nutrient-filled breakfast is one of the best ways to ward off unhealthy food cravings, keep your weight under control, and also eliminate the fatigue we often experience in the middle of the day when our blood sugar crashes. But mornings in our house are already crazy, with sleep deprivation, packing low calorie snacks for lunch, and grabbing last minute supplies for the day—and we only have two girls with another baby fast on the way! When they get older and are busier I doubt things will calm down either. Busy mornings, however, are no excuse to skimp on breakfast. And with some helpful hints to jumpstart your breakfast style, you’ll never want to speed through the meal again!
#1. Think ahead. Planning ahead for breakfast ensures that during the early morning you have time and the ingredients necessary to quickly put together a good meal for your family. This might mean making the batter early the night before, or perhaps getting up early.
#2. Try a smoothie! Smoothies are fantastic for breakfast on the go, getting fruits into your diet, and you can even convince your children to take them because they look just like milkshakes!
#3. Make sure to include plenty of protein in your breakfast as it is vital to stabilize your blood sugar levels, reduce your daily sweet tooth cravings, and jump start your metabolism and energy level. You can easily include omelets, yogurt, nuts, sausage, occasional bacon, and more to round out your diet.
#3. Add fruit to your cereal, pancakes, waffles, and more. Strawberries and cherries are great options. You can also have apples, oranges, and bananas, or keep them on the side.
#4. Drop coffee for tea. Coffee tends to lend itself to stained teeth, cravings for sugar, and even weight gain. Tea can help speed up your metabolism, fight cancer, and also wake you up just as well.
